As you enter the Train Station’s main lobby, you will come to our gift shop Information Station. Here you will say hi and purchase your museum ticket!
You might stay for the current story time & craft, find out what events are happening:
or if you are ready to explore, you will be given your passport to the Museum and begin your exploration of more than 300 years of change along the Washington Heritage Trail.

Here you will discover:
- The Map Table Video and discuss the large trail wall map to see the many prominent footsteps of George Washington made in the Eastern Panhandle
- See the GW Giles Shay Locomotive, a “live steam” model of a typical 3-truck Shay locomotive *This type of locomotive was widely used in the West Virginia timber industry from 1880-1945
- A young George Washington in his canoe greeting visitors
- The Museum’s Book and Gift Shop filled with lots of fun, unique and educational items to purchase to remember your visit!
From the Information Station, you may choose which travel journey of three you will start with.
