On the right track: Martinsburg’s children’s museum continues to gain steam

"Martinsburg native Bree Myers says she's continuing to find ways to let visitors and locals alike in on one of the city's best-kept secrets.

It's the “For The Kids, By George” Children's Museum that opened its doors nearly two years ago.

Housed in the historic Caperton Train Station on East Martin Street, the museum recently hosted a special Saturday event designed to give visitors the chance to create their own Underground Railroad experience as part of Black History Month.

Next up: the museum's Chess Tournament Around Town with businesses and organizations competing in speed rounds, with a champion set to be crowned in late April.

Through such special events as well as opening the interactive museum to field trips for schools, preschools and other groups, the museum could attract 3,000 visitors by year's end, said Myers, who enrolled at Elon University in North Carolina following her graduation from Martinsburg High School."
